FAQ for College Admissions
Our goal is to remove the myths and provide you with the insight and reality of how the recruitment process works. Within the site, you will find tips and information on how to apply academic and athletic accomplishments to maximize your child’s collegiate opportunities and more.
We use the latest in advanced technology to precisely match students to collegiate programs based on academic selection, athletic goals, geographic location and other selected factors. While we cannot guarantee everyone will receive a “full-ride”, we can promise if a student is honest with his or her academic and athletic abilities they will find the right fit.
What is the FAFSA and why I do need to complete it?
The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This application can be filled out either online or through the mail in paper form. The FAFSA is used to determine the amount of money you or your family is expected to pay towards your college education. Nearly all colleges use the FAFSA to determine loan amounts, work study, and student grants. Not sure if you qualify for student loans or grants? Fill it out, it’s FREE! Our E-College Counselor breaks down the types of financial aid and explains how tuition is not always the bottom line in picking your dream school.
I don’t have the best grades or ACT/SAT score, how does that affect my college choices?
Every College/University has its own individual admission requirements. Most also provide a “sliding scale” based on your GPA and test scores. Those will determine your minimum requirement for SAT/ACT scores combined with your GPA to see if you qualify for admissions. Check individual school websites for additional information and requirements. MATCHFIT® has direct links to College/University websites as well as the admission office’s e-mail address so you can send your questions instantly.
How do I know if I am eligible to play college sports?
Different divisions have different criteria for eligibility. Some require you to register with a Clearinghouse which asks questions to make sure you have maintained amateur status. Others base eligibility on grades, graduation rank, and test scores. Some have no eligibility requirements at all. Our E-College Counselor breaks down the different requirements by division, so you can make sure you are prepared and knowledgeable about all eligibility requirements.
No College Coaches have contacted me, does that mean I am not good enough to play college sports?
No! College coaches can’t contact you until you are a certain age, and only during certain times. With thousands of potential college bound student-athletes out there, how will a coach know you are interested if you have not contacted him/her with your resume and cover letter? Promoting yourself and showing interest in a program are essential if you want a spot on a collegiate roster. Using MATCHFIT® will provide you with a coach’s e-mail address, so you can instantly send them your cover letter and resume.
The E-College Counselor also provides you with an editable resume and cover letter template which makes communicating with a coach simple and easy.
There are so many different divisions of College Sports, which has the best scholarships?
There are several different divisions of College Sports including NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, NCCAA and NJCAA. The division of play determines the number of scholarships available for your sport every year. Some divisions only offer academic scholarships, not athletic. MATCHFIT® provides you with divisional affiliation, estimated number of scholarships, and number of freshman receiving financial aid.
